Review: The Seventh Sister

Author: M.A. Brown

Series: The Strattarian Chronicles

Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

First Thoughts

I clapped when I finished this book. Literally. My boyfriend looked at me like I was crazy. It’s so good, though! The slow burn was torture in the best way. And I do mean SLOW. Like a nonexistent, I-just-know-eventually-something-will-happen kind of burn. I can’t even say much about the MMC because I’ll spoil it but all I’ll say for now is I can’t wait for book 2!! I can just imagine the romance we’ll get as the story continues. This is the problem with reading the first book of a series. It just makes you want more! Following this author so I can get updates about the next book. What a great storyteller. Thanks so much to Victory Editing NetGalley Co-op for this ARC!

Minor Spoilers

I will be referencing some of the plot points in this review but I will do my best to not give anything away that will interfere with a reader’s experience. That being said, if you want to go into this more blind, stop here and get reading!

First Person Single POV

After a very intimidating glossary, guide to the kingdoms, and prologue, the story begins with our main character, Ertha, a healer living at a temple at which she was sent to study years prior. After some worldbuilding, it doesn’t take long for the action to come along. After a heartbreaking attack, our FMC is kidnapped and taken into enemy territory, forced to become the healer for her attacker’s kingdom.

The Romance

Okay, for once, I can’t say much about the romance. It would spoil too much. But I will say it is a slow burn and mostly all leading up to the rest of the series from what I can tell. That being said, it’s one of those slow burns where I was okay with knowing I might not get to the romance right away. I could feel its inevitability, if that makes sense. And the banter and tension were enough for now. I’ll be so happy when book two comes out and I can get more, though!

He held out a hand. “Please don’t strain yourself looking for a word to compliment me. I know exactly how I look.” I snorted delicately. “I wouldn’t dare. If your ego gets any larger, we won’t be able to fit down the stairs.”

The Plot

This story kept my eyes glued to the page. The author’s ability to tell a story is truly impressive. The pacing was perfect. It took its time while not being slow. I have only one complaint, and it is mainly just a personal issue. The author uses “noct” and “dey” instead of “night” and “day”. I understand it was just en element of the world the story was written about, but it was incredibly distracting, especially when it came to words such as “tonoct”, “noctmare”, “middey”, “todey”, “deylight”, etc.

HEA?

We’ll have to wait and see! This author left us on a cliffhanger. But I honestly can’t wait! Thanks so much to Victory Editing NetGalley Co-op for this ARC!
