* M/FFirst thoughts:This was such a great book! I’ve never read anything from this author, but I’ve heard many good things about her so I was excited to get this ARC. She didn’t disappoint. It has so many of my favorite tropes and I got so completely sucked into the fantasy world that I nearly read it in one sitting. It has a sweet slow burn and plenty of yearning as he falls first.The plot is pretty straightforward: warring kingdoms need a marriage alliance for an attempt at peace. But it can’t be as easy as that, can it? If you like twists, turns, and betrayal, you’ll love this. And, of course, MAGIC ✨It’s split into multiple parts, so it felt to me like more than one book. I also had a constant thought as I read this: if you liked Metal Slinger, you’ll probably like this. It’s not that the plot is the same, but I got the same vibes, ya know?Overall, I had a great time and I look forward to reading more of this author’s works. I wish I could give this more than 5 stars! It has everything I want in a romantasy. Tension, yearning, banter, touch her and 💀 I’m obsessed!I was hooked on this book from the very beginning. There was no “hmm this is starting out kind of slow” in the beginning or throughout. It’s not too action heavy either. The pacing is perfect and the plot is just so interesting I literally couldn’t put it down!You’ll have questions throughout, then you’ll think you’ve guessed all the answers, then you’ll realize you’re way wrong 🤣 if you’re anything like me. At no point in this book did I really know where it was going and I was LIVING for it. The mystery of it is captivating.The romance, y’all. It’s a reluctant romance at first. Both lacking trust. But when it hits, it HITS. But it feels so organic, not rushed or purposefully slow. Just right and so SO sweet.I highly recommend this one. I’ll be interested to see if I find a book to top this one in 2026.Can I just get book 2 already?? 😭💜Thanks so much to NetGalley and Zando for this ARC!!

I received this ARC unexpectedly as an email from the publisher (with a NetGalley link) because I had ARC read and loved We Who Will Die by Stacia Stark.Getting an ARC without applying for it can be amazing, but it could also be for a book I’m completely not interested in, so I wasn’t sure how it would go but I gave it a shot.Holy… I’m so glad it did! I completely devoured it! It had so many of the qualities of great romantasies I’ve loved in the past, while also being extremely unique and exciting. The MCs are too stubborn for their own good, and I sometimes wanted to scream at them to just be honest with each other, but during that last half I literally couldn’t put the book down.Thanks so much to Avon and Harper Voyager for this ARC!@avonbooks @harpercollins360 @harpervoyagerus

* Book 3 of the seriesFirst Thoughts:I’ll be honest: I had not read the first two books before applying for this ARC. That is not a mistake I generally make, but I had heard great things about this series and I figured I would like it. I was wrong, though… I LOVED it. I devoured all three books in a total of 16 days, during the holidays, AND while I was in a bit of a reading slump. So that’s saying something. I’m so glad I went for it and I’ll be anxiously awaiting book four!One of the things I was surprised to love about this series is the multiple POVs and relationships. I typically dread when the focus goes away from the main couple, but I was OBSESSED with Saga’s love story. It’s a beautiful thing to get to watch (read) two people, who are perfect for each other, grow into their love organically. And Silla and Rey were still around, also growing in their relationship, so we get more of the couple we love, without feeling like things are getting boring. We still have plenty of time to focus on the plot, the side characters, and the budding relationships taking place in very different locations.I can feel this story leading up to an incredible end, and I’m just here to enjoy the ride. I’m so glad I already have a special edition of The Road of Bones! I can only imagine where the author will take us from here, so I’ll be anxiously awaiting book four (and desperately hoping for an ARC of it!) and likely rereading the first three a few times.I can’t thank @ballantinebooks and @netgalley enough for this ARC! I highly recommend this series!
