First Thoughts

I’ll be honest: the plot of Our Vicious Oaths was so overpowered by the smut that I hardly knew what was actually happening with the plot. I wish there was someway to know before you start an ARC that it’s just smut masquerading as a romantasy. There is obviously a market for it, so I’ll let people know right away that’s what this is. I’m just unfortunatly not the intended audience.

If you like your smut with a sprinkle of plot, read this.

If you like your plot with some smut, I don’t recommend reading this.

Listen, I like spice just as much as the next bookish girl, but it should enhance the romance, not replace it.

The characters in Our Vicious Oaths don’t even like each other, much less “love” each other. They are like horny teenagers. And not just in regard to sex. The main characters act like immature teens ruling kingdoms. I can’t tell you how many times I rolled my eyes at the dialogue. One time the MMC actually says his “dick game is that good.” Both of the main characters are ruthless bullies. Unlikable characters with juvenile arrogance. If that’s not your thing, don’t read this.

There is some plot in there somewhere. It’s a very typical “evil king wants to kill everyone and rule the world” type of plot. But it’s there underneath all of the smut. It includes killing and torture for no real reason other than to show the bad guy is really bad.

Unfortunately, I’m not the type of reader that appreciates when a couple mistakes lust for love, so I didn’t love Our Vicious Oaths. I’m sure PLENTY of people will. Like I said, the demand for smutty books is high. Thanks to Harper Voyager for allowing me to read and review this ARC and give my honest opinions.
